Army Set to Reevaluate Discharge Cases

Thousands of Veterans who did not receive honorable discharge due to minor infractions while in uniform, which include those who were recommended by mental health doctors to separate, might have their cases reviewed.

This comes as a result of a settlement agreement filed this week in U.S. District Court in Connecticut involving former soldiers who separated from the military after October 7, 2001. If the agreement is approved by a judge, the Army would review all of the cases, which could lead to the upgrading of some to honorable, enabling those soldiers to receive Veterans Affairs benefits. Only those Veterans who receive an honorable discharge are entitled to Veterans Affairs benefits.
