UPDATE (March 3, 2023): Seminole Gulf Railway safely uprighted the tanker car onto its new wheels and moved it from the derailment location.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (March 2, 2023) – Work continues to clear a train derailment in an industrial park area of Manatee Countyjust north of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

This evening, Seminole Gulf Railway crews will attempt to upright and remove the tanker car filled with propane at the derailment site in the 7200 block of 16th St. East.

This delicate procedure is being done at night to reduce any potential risk for persons who work or attend schools in the areas surrounding the derailment site. Manatee County Public Safety—along with our partners at Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office—will be on scene to monitor the operation and assist if necessary.

Because of this sensitive operation, temporary road closures of 15th Street East between Tallevast Road and Whitfield Avenue are planned this evening. Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes around the area if possible.
