Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a specialized service, provided to Manatee County Public Library System resident cardholders, to obtain materials not available in our library system.

Non-resident, temporary online, and reciprocal borrower cardholders are not eligible for ILL.

Instructions: How to place an Interlibrary Loan request

Access ILL via the library catalog

1. On the Search screen, click on Search Options, then select Search Libraries Worldwide for Interlibrary Loan (see below)

2. Make sure to select WorldCat as the database instead of PAC (see below)

3. Enter your search terms, and continue with your request. You will be prompted to log-in if you have not already done so. Please make sure your contact information is updated.

ILL Policy and Procedure

  • Limit of four (4) requests at a time per library card
  • Items that may not be requested include: "new" titles less than 1 year old (submit a purchase suggestion instead); material already owned or on order for MCPLS; electronic resources
  • Reciprocal borrowers, temporary online, and non-resident cardholders may not borrow ILLs through our library system. 
  • Patrons who have overdue items or fees must clear their library card account before an interlibrary loan request may be processed.

ILL Renewals

  • A conditional 2-week renewal from the original due date may be requested, if renewal is allowed by lending library
  • Only one (1) renewal per item may be requested
  • Some lending libraries do not allow renewals
