The contractor, Woodruff & Sons, Inc., will begin construction activities starting in August 2024.

During construction activities, motorists will experience shifting travel lanes with one travel lane in each direction always being maintained. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with occasional nighttime and weekend work. Project completion is anticipated for fall 2027.

This roadway capacity improvement project will widen approximately 2.2 miles of Upper Manatee River Road from north of S.R. 64 to the Fort Hamer Bridge from two lanes to four lanes. Improvements will include raised medians, bike lanes, curb and gutter, 5-foot sidewalk on the east side of the roadway and 10-foot sidewalk on the west side of the roadway, and street lighting throughout the corridor. The project also includes intersection improvements at Greenfield Boulevard/Copperlefe Drive, Port Harbour Parkway, and Fort Hamer Road that include replacing the existing traffic signals with new traffic signals, left turn lanes, and pedestrian crosswalks. New signalized intersections will be constructed at Waterlefe Boulevard and at 2nd Avenue E.
