Towing Ordinance

House Bill 179 - Towing and Storage requires Manatee County to post established maximum towing and storage rates.

Manatee County Code 2-19-72 specifies the following maximum rates.
  • For vehicles with a gross weight of ten thousand (10,000) pounds or less or vehicles carrying a vessel fifteen (15) feet or less in length:
    1. One hundred twenty-five dollars ($125.00) for travel to the scene and the first thirty (30)minutes thereafter at the scene;
    2. One hundred dollars ($100.00) per hour, measured in fifteen (15) minute increments, after the first thirty (30) minutes at the scene;
    3. Four dollars ($4.00) per full mile towed;
    4. Up to fifteen dollars ($15.00) for additional services necessary to prepare to tow, such as disconnecting linkage, dropping of the driveshaft or changing a tire; and
    5. Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per day to store the vehicle.

  • For vehicles with a gross weight greater than ten thousand (10,000) pounds and less than twenty thousand (20,000) pounds or vehicles carrying a vessel more than fifteen (15) feet but less than twenty-two (22) feet in length:
    1. One hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) for travel to the scene and the first thirty (30) minutes thereafter at the scene;
    2. One hundred dollars ($100.00) per hour, measured in fifteen (15) minute increments, after the first thirty (30) minutes at the scene;
    3. Four dollars ($4.00) per full mile towed;
    4. Up to thirty dollars ($30.00) for additional services necessary to prepare to tow, such as disconnecting linkage, dropping of the driveshaft or changing a tire; and
    5. Thirty dollars ($30.00) per day to store the vehicle.

  • For vehicles with a gross weight over twenty thousand (20,000) pounds or vehicles carrying a vessel twenty-two (22) feet or longer in length:      1.Two hundred dollars ($200.00) for travel to the scene and the first thirty (30) minutest hereafter at the scene;
    2. One hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per hour, measured in fifteen (15) minute increments, after the first thirty (30) minutes at the scene;
    3. Five dollars ($5.00) per mile towed;
    4. Up to fifty dollars ($50.00) for additional services necessary to prepare to tow, such as disconnecting linkage, dropping of the driveshaft or changing a tire; and
    5. Fifty dollars ($50.00) per day to store the vehicle.

  • For all vehicles, tow truck operators may charge:
    1. Up to twenty-five dollars ($25.00) to cover or otherwise protect vehicle contents from exposure to the elements;
    2. Up to thirty-five dollars ($35.00) to allow a vehicle owner or operator access to a stored vehicle, during nonbusiness hours, to remove personal property; and
    3. Up to forty-five dollars ($45.00) per stored vehicle to off-set mailing, documentation, form preparation and collection costs (not including costs associated with filing of liens) for vehicles not claimed within twenty-four (24) hours.
    4. Enroute mileage from business location over fifteen (15) miles at a rate of three dollars($3.00) per mile.
