Manatee County Under Tropical Storm Warning; Announces Additional Closings

Tropical Storm WarningMANATEE COUNTY, FL (August 3, 2024) – Manatee County is now under a Tropical Storm Warning. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. The effects of the storm, which will be named Debby, are expected to begin early Sunday and continue throughout the day.

Evacuations have not been ordered at this time. However, Emergency Management will be opening a shelter at Nolan Middle School (6615 Greenbrook Blvd, Bradenton, FL 34202) at noon today. This shelter is available for those in low-lying areas who wish to evacuate. Residents and visitors should complete their pre-storm preparations as forecasters continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Depression 4.

Sandbag locations are available at the following sites:

  • Coquina Beach (north boat ramp parking lot) at 1507 S. Gulf Dr. in Bradenton Beach
  • Lincoln Park at 501 17th Street East in Palmetto
  • A self-serve location just south of the former Manatee County Utilities Headquarters at 4700 66th Street W. in Bradenton
  • Myakka City Community Center at 10060 Wauchula Rd. in Myakka City

Manatee County Animal Welfare will close Bishop Animal Shelter, Cat Town, and the Palmetto Adoption Center at 3 p.m. today until further notice.

Manatee County pools will be closed today through Monday, Aug. 5. The plan is to reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, Aug. 6. League play will be suspended beginning tomorrow until the storm has passed and parks can be assessed. G.T. Bray will close at the end of business today (4:00 p.m.) and will determine reopening based on further notice. Additional closings or postponements may occur based on weather conditions.
